There is thought to be a settlement at Weybridge since the Iron Age and hill fort relics have been found on top of St George’s Hill. Its first recorded mention was in 675AD when the town was referred to as Waigebrugge, meaning “Bridge over the River Wey”. Henry VIII built Oatlands Palace to the north-east of Weybridge and this was where he married his fifth wife, Catherine Howard. It was later destroyed in 1650.
Nowadays, Weybridge has a lively town centre, with various supermarkets, clothing stores, boutiques and convenience stores to be found along the High Street and Monument Hill.
Pubs, cafés, restaurants and takeaways can also be found in this part of town, as well as banks and book shops. A few hotels are located on Monument Hill, whilst Queens Road and Oatlands Park host more restaurants, furniture stores, supermarkets and pet grooming shops.
There are a few primary schools, secondary schools and colleges within Weybridge and several sports clubs, such as a tennis club and a cricket club.
Just outside Weybridge lies Bourne Business Park, offering office space across three buildings. The Brooklands Industrial Park is in the south of Weybridge, also offering a large number of warehouse units.
